„The figurability of mystical experience in early-modern painting“

Projektvorstellung von Ralph Dekonick (Louvain): „The figurability of mystical experience in early-modern painting“

Through the lens of the concept of figurability, this project intends to shed some new light on the way early-modern painting represents the mystical experience and above all tries to produce if not a mystical experience at least an experience of contemplation that blurs the limits between presence and representation. We are exploring the pictorial means of this indetermination and how it resonates with the textual testimonies about the different states of the mystical life.
